How is the price of a seat on a cost-sharing flight calculated?

With a cost-sharing flight, you're not buying a ticket: you share the real costs of the flight with the pilot and the other passengers. The price shown is therefore your share of the flight's direct costs (fuel, airport charges, the aircraft's hourly operating cost), plus the Volara service fee. It's the pilot who decides, when publishing the listing, how these costs are split.

Two ways to share the costs

Depending on the flight, the pilot offers one of these two modes. With a fixed contribution, they set an amount per seat, the same for everyone. With an equal split, the flight's costs are divided between everyone actually on board, including the pilot. The chosen mode is shown on the flight details page.

A price always governed by law

Whatever the mode, the pilot can never ask you for more than a fair share of the costs. Volara checks every listing to make sure. You pay a contribution towards the costs, never a profit.
