Renting an aircraft (renters)
What is the difference between the deposit and the insurance excess?
On Volara, the deposit equals the excess on the aircraft's insurance. These are not two amounts that add up: it is the same one. This amount represents the maximum that may remain payable by you in the event of damage.
What the excess is
The excess is the share of a claim that the insurer does not reimburse and that remains payable by the policyholder. It is the actual deductible on the owner's policy. Volara records it when checking the aircraft, and displays it as the deposit amount.
The deposit is not insurance
The deposit does not cover you. It only serves to guarantee the excess and any shortfalls. Beyond the excess, the owner's insurance policy takes over.
